Book description[]
- "Spring 1942
"U-boat submerging, sir," said the lookout. As the conning tower disappeared beneath the waves the Asdic began to pick up echoes from the submarine. We altered course to conform with the enemy, whose track was clearly marked by a continuous slick of oil, like the trail of blood left by a wounded animal. "Stand by, depth charges!" ordered the Captain. As we reached the end of the slick he pressed the release buzzer. The depth charges went rolling over the stern and the usual eruptions of water were thrown up as they exploded far below. "U-boat surfacing, sir!" shouted the lookout. As the sinister grey shape broke the surface our 4-inch swung towards it. The bridge machine gun opened fire."
Becoming a signalman aboard the HMS Arum, Peter is determined to help defend the convoys bringing vital supplies to Britain. He hopes more than anything to cross paths with the U-boat captained by the notorious Captain von Schleigen..."
