The Royal Diaries is a spin-off of the historical fiction series, Dear America. The series was published by Scholastic, starting in 1999 with Elizabeth I: Red Rose of the House of Tudor and ending in 2005 with Catherine: The Great Journey. It was briefly relaunched in 2013 with new editions of Anastasia: The Last Grand Duchess and Marie Antoinette: Princess of Versailles. Three of The Royal Diaries books were adapted into films by HBO in 2000.

Unlike Dear America, which focused only on girls living in America, The Royal Diaries featured girls of royalty from around the world. The series has covered several well known historical figures, such as Cleopatra VII, Marie Antoinette, Anastasia, and Elizabeth I, as well as the lesser known, Lady of Ch'iao Kuo, Sondok, Anacaona, and Nzingha.

The series was also published in Spain as Diarias de Reinas y Princesas by Salamandra and in Poland as Pamiętniki Księżniczek by Świat Książki. Several of books were republished in Mon Histoire and the My Story spin-off, My Royal Story.
