Hope in My Heart: Sofia's Immigrant Diary, Book One is a fictional diary in the My America. It was the first in the series about Sofia Monari. The book was published in November 2003 and followed by Home At Last. The book was written by Kathryn Lasky, author of several books in Dear America and The Royal Diaries.

Nine-year-old Italian Sofia Monari comes to America with her family. She finds herself wrongly detained at Ellis Island, where she makes friends with her fellow detainees.

Kathryn Lasky is an award-winning children's author whom has penned over one hundred books. She is best known for her fantasy series, Guardians of Ga'Hoole. Lasky is the author of Sofia's Diaries in My America, which also includes Home At Last and An American Spring. Additionally, she wrote four books in Dear America, one in My Name Is America, and five books in The Royal Diaries.

Shared continuity[]

Hope in My Heart is followed by the sequel, Home At Last. The story continues Sofia's story almost immediately after her detainment at Ellis Island. Sofia is now adjusting to her new home in the North End of Boston. Sofia's story is concluded in An American Spring.
