Dear America is a series of short films based on Scholastic's Dear America books. The television films aired on HBO and were released on videocassette throughout 1999 and 2000. They were followed by three films based on The Royal Diaries. Unlike The Royal Diaries films, Dear America has never been released on DVD. They are available to stream on certain services.
The series began in March 1999 with an adaptation of Patricia C. McKissack's A Picture of Freedom. Kathryn Lasky's A Journey to the New World and Dreams in the Golden Country, Kristiana Gregory's The Winter of Red Snow, Barry Denenberg's When Will This Cruel War Be Over? and So Far from Home, Mary Pope Osborne's Standing in the Light, Sherry Garland's A Line in the Sand, and McKissack's Color Me Dark were all filmed for the series.

Seven of the movies, excluding A Line in the Sand and When Will This Cruel War Be Over?, were released on video cassette throughout 1999 and 2000. The series has never been released on DVD, but is available on several video streaming websites.
